Hi,

Sorry for a slightly off topic que, its related to TCP/IP in general. Tell
me any better place to pose this, i'll go away :) I am just looking for
some information from networking gurus.

RFC 1256 (ICMP Router Discovery Messages) in Section 4.3 (Router Behavior)
says --

The advertisements are not strictly periodic: the interval between
subsequent transmissions is randomized to reduce the probability of
synchronization with the advertisements from other routers on the
same link. This is done by maintaining a separate transmission
interval timer for each advertising interface.

Here the advertisements mean Router Advts. My question is, why do we need
seperate timers for each interface. If randomization is the only answer,
only 1 timer for all interfaces shud suffice, isn't it? We can add some
random delta time to the advertising interval to achieve the same effect
no? Or am i missing something?

TIA,
Sharad.
