I am afraid I have bad news for you:

Typical symptoms of some wrong signal getting to the cable.
I have seens exactly the same when mains signal got there.

Possibilities: on coax, the shield has multiple grounding
(I remember a long discussion on some newsgroup how such
a cable should be grounded; multiple grounding causes
mains signal to be present on the cable); on TP, the hub
has damaged port (isolation damaged - try another port on
the hub); or card transceiver damaged; or cable damaged
(isolation broken) and touching not isolated mains cable.
Unless the first possibility, many devices may be damaged -
breaking isolation in one would not produce such a symptoms.

Be careful touching the cables - there may be mains voltage!
