Hi,
I have the similar problem, but it is after a Cisco Router. My server is
a light weighted machine. I only telnet to it (no www or sendmail...) .
The most common situation is somehow I can not connect from outsite of
the router, and sometimes was like your situation. I turned off the
tcp_sack and still lost connection.
It seemed the problem is more close to the MAC layer.
But I turned on the ARP daemon, and seemed not relevent.
If I use the linux to ping a nieghbor ip addr in the subnet(dont even
need to be the router), then I can ping from outside!
I can not really always duplicate this situation. Can anyone give me a
hint how to narrow the problem?
