I've been having similar problems. Though in my case after a period of time
my link will, for all practical purposes, just die. It will actually stay
connected, but the ping times and lost packets make it unusable. The only
way I can fix this is to down the interface and unload the module, then turn
around and reload everything. I wasn't sure whether this was a problem with
the network card, or with the network subsystem. I saw similar problems
during the time I was using a modem. Heavy outbound traffic would cause the
link to fail on a semi-regular basis. And I don't remember the problem
occuring before 2.2.14, though it may just be that the traffic level wasn't
as high as of late.

I'm interested to know if you find a resolution. For now, I've disabled
http downloads and restricted my ftp server access until I find a
resolution.
