Hi all,
I know it's not a nice subject to choose for such a professional mailing
list, but I have no choice. I've been tryin to get my LRP(Materhorn) to
work for the past 1 week and I have'nt been successful. There are quite a
few questions that I'm not able to find the answers to. I've read a lot of
pages and a lot of documentation but have'nt gotten anywhere. The situation
is like this :
->
Linux Kernel version : 2.2.13, RedHat 6.1
LRP : Materhorn(kernel 2.2.13)
My machine : Compaq 450Mhz, 328MB Ram(a high end machine)
All modules compiles on kernel 2.2.13, so no kernel mismatch.
I got the Materhorn on a floppy and booted from it. I came up fine but I
had problems with the ethernet cards. First I tried using 3com 3c509
cards(2 of them), one of the cards was detected but the other did'nt come
up, it gave me a "SIOCSIFFLAGS: Resourse Temporaryly Unavailable" error.
Though both the cards (eth0=128.82.8.32 eth1=128.82.13.32) showup in the
"ip addr show" command, the "ip route show" command shows only the
128.82.8.0 network and the eth0 gateway(128.82.8.1). Inspite of these
errors I'm able to ping both the interfaces but not the 128.82.8.1(etho
gateway) or any of the machines on the 128.82.8.0 network.
Then I replaced the 3c509 cards with 3c905C ethernet cards(3c59x driver)
and used the same IP adresses(eth0=128.82.8.32 eth1=128.82.13.32).
This time both the cards were recognized at boot time but when I do
"dmesg | grep eth" , I see the following error for both cards
"3com 3c905 Tornado 0x2c00 ***INVALID CHECKSUM 002f*** <Mac address>"
Again, i was able to ping both the interfaces but was not able to ping my
default gateway or any other machine on the networks(128.82.8.0 and
128.82.13.0).
What i'm surprised about is that, even when I got one interface to
work(with 3com 3c509 cards) I was not able to ping any other machine, not
even my gateway, which is on the same subnet.Atleast that should have been
possible.
If I get past this ethernet interface problem I can get to the
better aspects(routing, firewalls etc etc). I would be GREATFUL if anyone
can help me out in this matter by telling me where I'm going wrong. It
would also me nice if someone could send me the etc.lrp file as
attachment or atleast the network.conf file for static addressess(with
firewall or any fancy stuff).
