Please get gated-3.6(public) from 
        ftp://ftp.gated.org/net-research/gated/gated-3-6.tar.gz
        And try that first .  NOTE: Major differances in compiling
        this puppy from the older versions.  It (finally) uses 
        autoconf files .  (IE: ./configure)  Hth,  JimL
