Hi all
I have a Sparc 5 running RedHat 6.1; I have hooked up a modem to ttyS0
and am having some problems getting it to connect to the world. I'm
pretty sure that it's my lack of understanding of serial port settings
that's the problem.
minicom and PPP have the same problem. I'll describe the problem as I
see it in minicom:
The serial port is set to 38400, 8N1. If I set it to 57600 the modem
does not respond.
Minicom issues modem setup strings: AT S7=45 X4 &c1 E1 S0=0
I issue the dial command ATDT <blahblahblah>
The modem dials, negotiates and comes back with a connect string
CONNECT <blahblahblah>/V42BIS
At this point, I can type to my heart's content and there is no
response or indication that I have a connection. The modems are still
connected (it doesn't drop until it times out) I can not get a response.
I have tried the same modem and setting string from a dumb ascii
terminal, with the same port settings; after the CONNECT string, I can
get authentication prompts and a PPP connection by hitting return.
So... the problem is in the computer, not the modem.
All help or pointers are greatly appreciated!
