I think that this is a Win98 problem.
Try to set this string parameter in the windows regestry and try to cannect
again:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VNETSUP]
"EnablePlainTextPassword"=dword:00000001
