I have several dual PPro (200Mhz/256k cache) systems running v2.2.14 of the
kernel
and Digital's DE500 (21140) Ethernet card. The systems are plugged into a
Cisco
3524XL switch. All systems for the test are on the same VLAN on the Cisco.
The systems are pretty quiet (99% idle). I have a software raid array set
up
with six Seagate cheetah drives. I put my test file on this array (a 500MB
random
file (created by dd & /dev/random). I am attempting to transfer this file
from
one system to another similarly configured with FTP.
The BEST speed I can get is 5MB/sec. The CPU's on the systems (using TOP)
show only 40% utilization.
All cards are forced into full-duplex, 100Mbit mode as is the switch for
those
ports.
This is not even half of what I 'should' be able to get out of this setup.
Any ideas?
