Hi...
No FAQ, HOWTO, or anything funny needed... Setup the proxies on both
computers, as you would normally do... Then comes the trick..
It's called round-robbin DNS...
In your DNS zone..
proxy A 127.0.0.1
A 127.0.0.2
A 127.0.0.3
etc etc etc
The DNS then will respond with one of the three IP addresses, which means
your clients will go to either .1, .2, .3 based on the DNS results...
Although, all three servers will word with the request being sent to
proxy.domain.com. If you use squid as your proxies, or some form of other
half decent proxy server, you can also setup a 'proxy-realm' between two or
more proxies, which will in some form, allow the proxy servers to "share"
their cache. The cache object will for instance, first be requested from
proxy1 of proxy2 does not have the object. If both proxies do not have the
object, only then will the proxy actually go to a web site and fetch the
object. etc etc etc.. I suggest you visit http://squid.nlanr.net and read
up a bit on how exactly these realms work.
If setup correctly, you can save a serious ammount of bandwidth with the use
of a second proxy, aswell as load and performance increases...
