Hello! Many thanks to the people that answered my previous questions - they were very helpful! Anyway, one more to complete the installation of some new workstations & server: Where is the correct place - according to FHS - where the users on a system should keep their *common* files? I mean a directory writable by any of them that will allow: - keep common files (papers, works, etc.) in a centralised place, to be modified by any interested user, locally *or remotely* - exchange files from one home directory to another (a "transit" directory) - almost instant access to the contained information, by users without IT background (no FTP downloads & uploads & alike ...) - easy performing of (automated) backups, using a tape drive The same question for a *read-only* directory (a directory where the sysadmin will put information that every regular user may read, but no user should be able to modify - for example, price lists in a business). Probably an intranet Web is more suitable for this ... Are there any docs that I should read on planning a directory structure & backup strategy for systems with a large number of users? Thanks a lot. Best regards, Razvan -- Dipl. Eng. Razvan SANDU <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Network Administrator at I.R.
