The files mentioned need to be ferretted through and edited to your liking (they're well-commented). There are also gui front-ends for modifying the config files, but I can't tell you the name of it/them at the moment, unfortunately. Sorry if this is not much help for you. I've fiddled a bit with configuring icewm, but don't consider myself any sort of expert at it. I never did figure out how to place shortcuts/symlinks on the desktop.
