What exactly are the error messages? People are much more likely to be
able to help with accurate and complete information.

2.1.x are development kernels. Unless you know what you are doing and/or
want to hack around with them and/or need some of their features you
should not be running them. They do not always compile with any set of
options, and even when they do, they don't always boot.
