Minicom places a little box on the screen and says initializing modem.
However the modem does not make a sound - it should
When I type anything Minicom ignores it, if I turn on echo I see it on
the screen but the commands have no effect.

the output for setserial is 16550A 0x02f8 irq:3 the same as in win95,
when I cat /proc/interrupts irq 3 is free - not listed.
