Pnp Supra Modem Woes - Definitely Stuck

Is there anyone who has got a pnp modem to work with Linux?
Has anyone documented this triump?, does anyone want to?. 

If anyone has got a Diamond Supra 336i /288i or similar modem to work
with Linux could you give me a shout. 

Also if anyone knows where i can buy NON PNP EXTERNAL modems in the New
York/ New Jersey Area it would be appreciated - preferable 288 or 336
speeds. Trying to keep costs down.
