I have used both a Boca 33.6 (strictly PnP) and a USR 56K (Used both PnP and
jumpered). For PnP run "sbin/pnpdump > pnp.conf" this generates a file
pnp.conf that contains all the possible setting for all the PnP cards
(except video?). You then locate the relevant section and uncomment the
required settings for IRQ and I/O. Then run "sbin/isapnp pnp.conf" this will
configure the card(s) and allow Linux to access them. Then "setserial
/dev/ttyS? irq x uart 16550a spd_vhi", replacing the ? and x with the
correct numbers, this will set the port to allow high speed communication.
test the modem using minicom and if it is satisfactory add the isapnp and
setserial command lines to your /etc/rc.d/rc.local and whenecer you reboot
it will be setup. any questions just drop me a line and I'll try to help
more.
