Yes, generally two options.
1. "vi" (or a clone like elvis) which is the "traditional" un*x text
editor.
2. emacs or xemacs which is very powerful and can do all sorts of
things.
If you type, eg, "emacs filename" (replace with the real filename) you
will go straight to the editor.  Best to get some "destructions" first.
Also, the x-windows version is a little easier to manage, in my opinion.
