haven't a clue... but here's how i made my mystique work:
ran xf86config
chose Matrox Mystique
set up my monitor (hint: find monitor manual/sheet of japaneese translated paper)
DO NOT PROBE Clocks
No ramdac setting
no clock setting
set up other things like mouse
ran x [startx -- -bpp 16]
