Right.
S means Start
K means Kill
they are executed when you change runlevel. When you switch to runlevel
N, all the scripts in rcN.d are executed. If the link starts with an S,
then they are passed "start" as a parameter, and so start up the relevant
service. If the link starts with a K, then the script is passed "stop" as
a parameter and kills the relevant service.
