I seem to be missing a few mails on this thread, or at least it looks like
it, so my answer "might" seem unlikly or hazy to some.
When ctrl-Z is invoked some (not all) process will "stop" if one types "bg"
then the job will go into whats called the background, so realy "vi" or some
other process does not die, its just you suspended it.
(i cant talk about "vi" because i dont use it)
Typing "fg" should restart it, or a better word would be, bring it to the
foreground again.
Like i said, if i am sounding "hazy" please tell me.
