Back in time when i used 3.01 i used to set all path's in a file called
netscape /usr/local/bin/netscape would look like this.

export LD_PRELOAD="/lib/gnumalloc.so"
export CLASSPATH="/usr/local/lib/netscape/java_301:."
exec /usr/local/bin/netscape-3.01 -geometry 520x420+10+1 & $*

That was the answer to all the problems which seem to be occuring now, as
to that being applicable now wth 4.0x is a matter of opinion and
experimentation.
Of course gnumalloc does not apply here, substitute that with the problem
lib(s).

The best way to see which version of netscape one has is;

'file /usr/local/netscape/netscape' i get;

ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1, dynamically linked,
stripped

Now i'm no X expert, however its looking more and more like Mr, Gallant has
the wrong version of netscape for his system.
