Although not exactly a newbie, I have run into a new problem for me.

All tty mode istallation from CDROM went flawlessly.

XF86Setup is able to come up and run with a reasonable (if not great)
graphic window. Mouse (ps/2) works OK, keyboard OK for start.
Nevetheless, XF86Setup cannot seem to use the initial configuration it
uses for itself to restart X-windows to run xvidtune. The screen is
fragmented with repeated blocks and flickers. I have had the same
problem when attempting a hand configuration. According to Dell it has an
ATI Mach64 chip set and X -probeonly reports the same.

If I understand XF86Setup it uses XF86_VGA16 to start, but I can't get
this to work by hand. X dies with the error that 640x480 doen't exist.
XF86Setup finfs something to start.

Has anyone seen this sort of thing? This is Slackware 3.6, BTW.

Thanks.
