So far, I have found SuSe 6.0 to be the most robust and easiest to
configure. I have tried Red Hat, Caldera (including the new GUI-based
one) and Slackware. Although Red Hat installed easily, it was difficult
for me as a relative newbie to add components. Caldera just plain would
not install on my Linux machine (although the earlier versions would
install and work well). Slackware follows standard Linux directory
structures, but you have to set it up yourself (at least on the one I
tried).

SuSe has a management tool called "yast" which really makes it easy to
do changes.

Hope this helps.

regards, Jim
