Oh no it doesn't. One phone line, directly from modem A to modem B...
that's all it takes. I did it once to test phone lines, and I used to do
it all the time with unmarked modems to determine it's max. speed. :-)
It's amazing what solutions you come up with when you lack money and have
all these extra materials -- gotta love improvising, though :-).
