Okay, there are two reasons why this modem isn't a winmodem.  First,
because it is an external (winmodems are internal - usually PCI).  And 
second because it states that it works with win3.1 (winmodems don't
work with win3.1).

You've got the modem, so try it out.  If it doesn't work take it back
complaining that you didn't get what you asked for.
