Hello
Thanks - Michael, Ray & John - your tips HELPED !
Well, my POP3 server seems to be alive, it really was *ed in /etc/inetd.conf
file.
But - still no fun, no mail...
Now the situation is this :
1- my box is standalone, no connection to the world at all. No ethernet card.
2- the local addresses are 127.0.0.1 and 200.137.128.1, 200.137.128.10 - 20
3- DNS entries are : host.aldeia.com.br 127.0.0.1
mail.aldeia.com.br 200.137.128.1
dns1.aldeia.com.br 200.137.128.1
www.aldeia.com.br 200.137.128.10
www1.aldeia.com.br 200.137.128.11
4- Apache happily responds to
host.aldeia.com.br serving index.html from /home/httpd/html
mail.aldeia.com.br serving index.html from /home/httpd/html
www.aldeia.com.br serving index.html from /home/httpd_www/html
www1.aldeia.com.br serving index.html from
/home/httpd_www1/html
5- I have 3 users defined :
root (default)
frank (pop users, no shell)
frankva (users)
6- I tried to configure all frank and frankva users in both K-email program
and Netscape.
7- Both mail programs briskly send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
It is very fast, much faster than with Windows...nice :)
8- When I configure both K-email and Netscape to pull POP3 mail from
mail.aldeia.com.br
or host.aldeia.com.br server, the server responds, if password is bad,
refuses,
if password is OK responds that no mail is present.
9- Telneting to the mail server 'telnet mail.aldeia.com.br 110' the server
respods,
giving username frank and frankva it responds OK and when given pass ...
it responds
0 messages.
So - I have sendmail responding, I have POP3 responding but I am being
unable to send mail to myself. Why ???
Thanks for any help
Frank
