Try the Midnight Commander. It is just the Norton Commander for Linux.
I think all distributions have it.
On command line put mc and press enter.It works also in X term.
F1 to F10 have the same functions like in NC which you used in DOS.
I used allways it to find the scripts and edit them. It never failed.
You loose your time with antiques like vi and using emacs for such a
thing is killing a fly with a cannon.
