Assuming that /dev/hdd is your CD-ROMW device, you need to make sure that
your user can read it. You need to be root to do this, and the command
is: chmod 644 /dev/hdd (this will make the device writeable by everybody).
If you are using RedHat, they have an odd PAM module that will probably
change it back again next time you log in though.
