Have you tried;
cd /dev/
rm mouse
ln -s ttyS0 mouse
gpm -t ms
That is the way to get an MS compatable serial mouse to work. As to what a
"oldskool" MS mouse is i have no idea, but the letters MS suggest it would use
the "MicroSoft" protocol.

If you decide you need help on the NICS, do not forget to tell us the make
and type, + settings for irq's + io ports, considering you said "junk" i
presume they are ISA cards. 8 Bits.??? Thats junk.
