Hi,

I assume that the kernel is correctly configured (see CD-writing HOWTO).

you must edit  /etc/conf.modules and write the right "alias" and "options" in
it.

Probably something like


    alias   scd0 sr_mod                  # loads sr_mod starting scd0
    alias   scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi    # emulates SCSI controller
    options ide-cd ignore=hdb            # if /dev/hdb is your CD-writer

If your kernel needs to be recompliled try reading kernel HOWTO and README's in
/usr/src/readme
