This is a fresh install, so no formatted partition in which a log can
be found.

Yes, I assume it's hardware. A partial replacement of RAM was my first
step, but I think I'll change it altogether. Maybe overclocked. Not
sure how I'd know. It is a "Pentium S" (?) which I don't recognize,
and it is said to run 100 MHz. If I turned off the "turbo," I wonder
if that might compensatew for overclocking.
