The used ioports are in /proc/ioports
cat /proc/ioports

locking up the whole machine is a situation that dosemu should not do,
if dosemu fails or dyes then one can still get to another console to kill
its process id.
I have had many port and irq conflicts with dosemu but it has never locked
up the machine.
