First to answer your question -- send the message (in this case) to
        [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The formula owner-[listname]@[listhost].[listdomain] is a pretty standard
formula for contacting list owners.

Having answered your question, let me go on to urge you not to waste your
time. This is for two reasons:

        1. as far as I can tell, nobody ever reads mail sent to
owner-linux-newbie. At least I've never been able to get action on fixing
real, fixable problems (like bounces from bad sbscriber addresses) by
reporting them to the list owner.

        2. As a list manager for lists other than this one, let me assure
you that list owners know about any spam that goes through the list. The
lists I manage use a better SPAM filter than what linux-newbie uses (it
would have caught today's example), but no SPAM filter is perfect. Unless
you think you have some suggestion to make that the list manager doesn't
already know about, please consider whether there is any benefit in
complaining to him or her. Except for moderated lists (where the list
manager reviews EVERY message before posting), there is no surefire way to
block SPAM.

This may be worth doing, but don't assume that hotmail.com is the
originating ISP -- forging From: headers is trivially easy. At least check
the Received: headers to see where vger *thinks* it received the message
from (this is spoofable too, but it's harder). In the case of today's SPAM,
here are the (very few) relevant lines:

>Received: from [64.228.248.33] ([64.228.248.33]:3962 "HELO

If you want to pursue this with the originator, I suggest using host or
nslookup to find out who 64.228.248.33 really is ("server1.sympatico.ca" is
easier to spoof than the actual address), or do a traceroute to find out
what ISP serves that address, and complain there. Or do a whois on
sympatico.ca .

I'm not doing this for you because I think it is a waste of time. If you (or
anyone) does want to complain, at least send the complaint to the right place.
