Yea for security reasons root can't log in remotly. Most people would
recommened either rooting from the console, or telnet-ing in with another
username/password then using the `su` command to change into the root
account for admin purposes.
There is also what is called ssh, which is secure shell. It encrypts
everything so that anyone that is running a packet sniffer on your network
can't grab username/passwords. IMHO openSSH is really good, and free (both
in speech and beer), you can grab it at http://www.openssh.com I would
still recommend though that you ssh in with a normal user then su to root
for security reasons
You can telnet into another machine using the root account, but it is highly
recommened against and it's set up not to allow root login via telnet by
default on most if not all distro's.
