To all whom it concerns.

I just downloaded staroffice 5.2 its file name is;

so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-en.bin

All one needs to do is;
make sure you have 250 megs free on the partiton you intend to install
staroffice on.
chmod a+x so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-en.bin
./so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-en.bin

The install program does the rest, if anyone is interested i did it as a
user and NOT root.

What i think is the problem of the chappie who wrote the origanal mail, is
he is possably using wrong permissions, or trying to install on a root
owned directory of filesystem.

I had absolutly no problems at all, i did not even read any of the help
files available during the install.

I do find it a memory hog, but i have not yet looked to see if it can be
told to run how one wants it to. I too do sometimes RTFM.

That works here, just checked.

My slackware 7.0 returns;
2.1.2
But as i see it, that cannot have any bearing on this problem.

You have created a directory called startoffice, there is NO need, simply
use the defaults (providing there is enough free space) the install
program creates a direcory called office52 in PWD.

When the install program starts it askes you where to install, its a very
well though out install program.
