reboot the machine with CTRL-ALT-DEL this usually triggers the shutdown
mechanism if enabled in inittab and then at the lilo prompt type linux
single i.e
LILO BOOT: linux single
this should put you in single user mode and if it is redhat without some
modifications then it shoudl drop you into a root shell and thus you will
be able to change the password with the password command.
