Your observations are correct and thanks for the feedback.

The Inventory Collector (IC) is usually of size < 100MB. Hence, based on
customer input, DSU retains the IC and refresh only when a new IC is available.
The latest system updates are obtained from Catalog which is of size less than
500KB (rpm). So to make sure we obtain latest Catalog every time, we fetch it
during every DSU instance.

IC is needed to perform system inventory. The 'inventory_firmware' command
(deprecated) downloaded all the required IC components when user issues 'yum
install dell_ft_install'. But it is a good suggestion to use the available IC
if network is not available or should be used. We will include this in DSU
development plan to have it available in future releases.

Thanks,
Soorej

It would also be useful if dsu could optionally work like the old
"inventory_firmware", that is just give the status of all the firmware levels
it knows about w/o using the network at all, w/o
installing/updating/uninstalling anything, w/o touching the system in any way.
