I'm trying to get ppp running on a RH6.0 system. I can reach my ISP using
minicom, but cannot get beyond the error(?) message
pppd: unknown host: *
when I try invoking pppd, either through the ppp-on script or by direct
command line call.
It takes about 30 seconds for the error message to appear, and during that
time pppd shows up as an active process; then it disappears. That seems
normal to me.
When I call out using minicom, I get all sorts of nice modem noises, but not
when I try pppd, so I may not even be getting as far as the modem.
Any suggestions as to what to do, what to read (I've read the HOWTO and
anything else I could find), or a more detailed interpretation of just what
the error message means would be greatly appreciated!
