The only other thing I can think of is the FIFO buffers being overrun
because handshaking isn't working. If handshaking were not working or was
turned off, I would expect the same symptoms. There would be some data loss
that would cause the node to resend the data after a timeout period. I
haven't seen this happen or tried to simulate this, but logically it is
possible. I have never had this problem and I am using ppp on multiple Linux
boxes at multiple sites.
