I am using RedHat 5.2 (raid supported) and am having a hell of
a time getting a root partition to boot as raid 1.
Does anyone have Linux working in a root mounted RAID
configuration?
What do the linuxrc and lilo.conf files need to look
like?
I am simply trying to set up mirroring on my root partition
for High Availability (as well as fault tolerance). I don't want my system
to lock if any one of the drives go out. I am trying to switch over my
production server from Windows NT to Linux (my NT is also running software raid1
on the boot system). I can get the Linux raid set up no problem (I am able
to mount the raid and go through a shutdown and all is well), but I can't figure
out what to put into the linuxrc file to get the partition to boot as
root.
I am using mkinitrd to build the initrd file for the ram
boot. I hacked the mkinitrd script to put the raid tools in the initrd but
I'm not sure what to put in the linuxrc file to prepare the raid for boot.
I think all I need is an example linuxrc and lilo.conf file to get this to
work. I can't believe there is so little documention on this. If I
get this to work, I will post a 'cook book' for the setup at one of my sites
(http://javaexchange.com).
