Dear sir,

we have several installation problems with Linux RedHat 5.2 + AMI driver (boot and
supp downloaded disks) with our Dual Pentium II server with AMI MegaRaid controller!

Our 'MADRONA' system is equipped with MB 440LX, dual 300 Mhz Pentium II, AMI Megaraid
Controller, NCR 53C8xx PCI, 4 Fujitsu Hard Disk configured in 1 logical volume Raid 5
(3 on line + 1 hot spare) and works with Unixware 2.1.3 .

During the Linux installation process the system crashes when it tries to initialize
the controller or more, in 3 and more different ways !

The 1st is:
----------
Selecting the normal (not expert) installation mode and then the 'server' option the
system correctly finds the NCR810 (53C810a), then selecting the AMI MegaRaid it
crashes after printing many times the next two lines:
 ...
 <7> PENDING = 0 IN_ISR = 0, mbox.busy = f0
<7> MegaIssueCmd returned BUSY. Rescheduling command.
        << system crash >>

The 2nd is:
----------
Selecting the expert installation mode and the NCR 53c8xx controller the system
reports 'Controller not found' but with the indication:
 ...
 <6> ncr53c8xx: at PCI bus 0, device 15 function 0
 <6> ncr53c810 detected
 <6> ncr53c810a-0: rev=0x12, base=0xfedffc00, io_port=0xf800, irq=11
 <6> ncr53c810a-0: ID 7, Fast-10, Parity Checking
 <6> ncr53c810a-0: restart (scsi reset)

 <4> scsi0: ncr53c8xx - revision 2.5f.1
 <4> scsi: 1 host
 <4> ncr53c810a-0: releasing host resources
 <4> ncr53c810a-0: resetting chip
<4> ncr53c810a-0: host resources succesfully released

<< The system reports NOT FOUND >>

The 3rd is:
----------
Selecting the expert installation mode and directly the AMI Mega Raid the system
crashes during the channel scanning with the following indication:
 ...
 <6> megaraid : found 0x8086:0x1960: idx 0:bus 0:slot 19:fun 1
 <6> scsi0: Found a MegaRAID controller at 0x1080e000, IRQ: 11
 <6> megaraid: [Tn0D:1.06] detected 1 logical drives
 <4> scsi0 : AMI MegaRAID Tn0D 254 commands 16 targs 2 chans
 <4> scsi: 1 host.
 <6> scsi0: scanning channel A for devices.
        << system crash >>

Disabling the NCR controller we have the same results.

Now after several days of testing and installations we don't know if we can use Linux
on our system or someone could help us.

Thanks!

Best Regards.
