Hi,
I have a machine with an ICP-Vortex controller, and I have previously noticed
people from ICP posting to this list, so I wonder if someone with some experience
might see fit to shed some light on this. The machine in question has a GDT
6537 controller, and has 4 disks on this. It also has an on board Adaptec
controller (AIC 7870) with tape drive and CD on it. The Adaptec controller
is giving me nothing but trouble - the Linux kernel doesn't always pik up
all the attached devices at boot. I may as well toss a coin to see whether
it's going to have a tape drive this time....
Would it be workable for me to disable the Adaptec controller, and attach
the tape drive and CD-ROM to the third channel of the ICP vortex (the disks
are all on channel A)? What impact might this have, and how reliable
would it be. Has anyone done this, and what were the results. This machine
is a server I'm attempting to install, and I need total reliability. The
machine it's replacing has 234 days of uptime, and I want the same from this
one......
Any comments/ideas appreciated,
Mike.
