I haven't tested a DAC960PG in quite some time, but your numbers didn't look
too bad.

  Can I change the controller for another Mylex model and trust I won't have
  to repartition and mkfs?

You could install an AcceleRAID or eXtremeRAID and it should adopt the
configuration, but you probably cannot go back.  Still, be sure to have a
current backup just in case.
