The 310 uses a SYM53C810A BTW :-) The 390 is the only Tekram which uses
those AMD chips. 

Still, I don't see what problems there are with the AMD-based 390 PCI
or SCSI parts, I've never seen any. (I've never seen any on my 390U
either - SYM53C875 based)

Maybe you could ask Doug Ledford directly, he is maintainer of the
AIC7xxx driver.
