Thank you for all and Mr. LaBash and Mr. Scott,
Now everything seems to work, you can see my struggle below, but I have two
more one questions, since density code shows "0x0 default" Am I gonna able
to use compression? If yes how? Second one is is there a menu driven
backup "HP SureStore DAT8" compatible software suggestion?
My most recent wrestling history with makedev this morning, please check
and see how the Gremlins play a role on an HP product:
What the log says about SCSI is:
ep 27 13:25:11 physio kernel: scsi0 : AdvanSys SCSI 2.0: PCI Ultra 16 CDB:
Sep 27 13:25:11 physio kernel: scsi : 1 host.
Sep 27 13:25:11 physio kernel: Vendor: HP Model: C1533A
Sep 27 13:25:11 physio kernel: Type: Sequential-Access
thats all

makedev st0 just worked now, it wasn't working yesterday, pls. don't ask
why! :)

SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=-1, block number=-1, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x24 (DDS-2).
Soft error count since last status=0

uh oh!

./MAKEDEV: don't know how to make device "nst0"
Wait a minute nst0 worked too..... wonder how!!
>mt -f /dev/nst0 status
SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=0, block number=0, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x0 (default).
Soft error count since last status=0

Please note the byte difference between st0 and nst0........!
Yes it is corrected now.

SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=0, block number=0, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x0 (default).
Soft error count since last status=0

Guess good Gremlins inside of it. Smart HP
>mount /dev/st0 /tapeback
mount: /dev/st0 is not a block device
Hmmmm, don't laugh I am learning this stuff.
