I bought a Sony DAT SDT-7000, worked fine with DDS1 (90m) tapes for
months but I recently found that the drive writes DDS2 (120m) tapes fine
but has some sort of problems reading these DDS2 tapes. I've done
everything that's stated in Sony's "Unix Compatibility guide" but I
could not solve the problem yet. I heard from another guy having the
same problems with the SDT-7000.He said, HP works, Sony doesn't.
A call to the SONY hotline revealed they don't want to support Linux.
The guy was bored and didn't want to help. I stated that I also have
this problem with Solaris 7 but all he said was that he only supports
the drive on Solaris when I use some commercial backup software.
Conclusion: To get UNIX support from SONY I have to buy some expensive
commercial backup software to proof that the drive has problems. This is
what I call "NO SUPPORT" at all.
Next time I buy HP.
Has anybody else problems with SONY drives on Linux or other UNICES?
