Hi all,

just wanted to clarify this:

It is **NOT** a Linux problem. The problem is in the drive, it needs
service.

I called the SONY hotline (again) and they pointed me to a company doing
the service for the SONY DAT drives.
I told them the problem and they said the drive needs the head
current/voltage adjusted and maybe needs cleaning.
Sounded to me as if they know the problem...
They will do the service free of charge as long as the drive is in warranty
(2 years if manufactured after 9/97).

It turned out for me that the SONY support is better than it apperared at
first sight.

Thanks to all who responded.

Mit freundlichen Gruessen / best regards
