You are right. Support for Ultra-160 in DT mode for the C1010 has been
made available fall 1999. Pamela Delaney has made the changes for the
Linux sym53c8xx driver. Patches for Linux-2.2.X are available at the
Lsilogic (lsil) ftp site. (sym53c8xx version 1.61)
I am the author of the Ultra-160 support added in the FreeBSD sym_hipd
driver.

Both the O/Ses and drivers works fine for me using a C1010 (Ultra3) a 895
(Ultra2) and a 810a.

The FreeBSD driver is officially released since months, but the Linux one
is not yet so. Pamela said recently that release of the Linux driver will
happen in April. The release will just allow to update the sym53c8xx
driver in the Linus reference tree. As I wrote above, users can download
patches from the Lsilogic ftp site.

The reason of the FreeBSD driver having been released earlier than the
Linux one is probably due to the difference in quality control. A large
company has procedures for that, but an individual as I am can release
code as soon as the source looks just perfect to him. :).
