As I already mentioned: boot winXX, end windows by "starting in dos mode". There
you should have loadlin to boot your linux. Thats as 'warm' as you can get. 

If you don't want to fiddle around with loadlin right now, Ctrl-Alt-Del will do a
warmreboot (*not* counting your memory at the rebootscreen).
Ctrl-Alt-Del either from the 'you can now switch off your computer' message
screen or from the dos mode too.

That maybe is enough to keep the cardsettings from windows and could make your
card available under Linux.
