Or a cable problem or even a power supply problem! If you are running in
LVD mode, use a cable designed for it. Regular flat ribbon cable will
not carry a full speed (40MHz) LVD signal without distortion. That's
like running 100base-TX over phone wire.
Can you try dropping the bus to SE and/or reducing the speed of the tape
drive. (i.e. run the drive in async mode just to make sure it isn't the
drive.)
